Jerry West to Speak at Vegas PubCon

Yesterday I spoke with Brett Tabke, owner of WebmasterWorld and host of PubCon in Vegas this November 10-13 and I’m a confirmed speaker on Affiliate Marketing. My first session will be on Tuesday afternoon and I may have one or two other sessions including doing some moderator duties.

If you haven’t scheduled to go yet, I would highly recommend it. PubCon is one the only conferences I attend every year without fail. It is both affordable and worthwhile. In fact, my first PubCon was back in the summer of ‘05 in New Orleans, just before Katrina hit. It was a definite turning point in my career and things I learned from the sessions, hallway discussions and from talking with the Google engineers I literally put into play each evening and I saw results.

And if you don’t go for any other reason than to come and hear me speak, that would be killer. I’m planning on putting on a small workshop the day/night before PubCon, so if you’re interested, let me know and I’ll get a room booked. I’ll do the same setup as the session I did last month, charge just enough to cover the cost of the room and I’ll stay as long as there are questions to answer. Last month I was there for four hours.

Here are some of my favorite moments from the past PubCons (all pictures taken by me).

Interviewing Jake Baillie of True Local

Jake Baillie is one of my favorite presenters at PubCon due to his no-nonsense approach and wealth of knowledge which can actually be implemented in your business. Much of what I know about competitive intelligence can be attributed to Jake.

His motto is simple: “Use the Damn Internet!” … as too many people are lazy to figure things out themselves by tapping into this killer resource at the tips of your fingers. If Jake is presenting, make sure you catch him.

The "Super Session"

I’m almost always on the front row as I’m less likely to be distracted and conversations between the presenters are often audible. :-)

Domain Valuation

I am often asked how do you value a domain? How much is it worth? This is both on the selling side and the buying side.

There is so much that goes into this “formula” due to what exactly are you buying … are you buying just the domain? The design? The traffic? The customer list? Those are all key factors in determining the actual worth of the domain and they can get pretty complex.

However, there are two sites I use in order to get a good “measure” of the domain.

Buying a Domain?: Use DNScoop.com. They tend to “under value” domains and use a formula based on traffic, PageRank and links to determine value. For example, they value my SEORevolution site as worth just under $6,000. Not much.

Selling a Domain?:
Use BizInformation.org. They tend to “over value” domains and use a system similar to DNScoop. How much do they value my SEORevolution site? $1.5 million.

As you can see, there is a big difference between the two and whether you are buying or selling, you can use each service to leverage your negotiation.

Pay Attention … It’s a GOOD Thing.

I know we have all taken pot shots at the domain owners that spell things other than what they intended, but what is happening more and more are logos giving … well, a less than suitable impression. Here is an example:

MegaFlicks - Use a DIFFERENT Font!

Attention Owners of MegaFlicks: Use a different font!

There’s really not much more I can say about this one …

Jerry West Resigns from StomperNet Faculty

http://www.seorevolution.com/event/focusing/focusing.mp4

On Sunday night after StomperNet Live8, I resigned from my faculty position. I want to publicly state before any rumors get started that this has nothing to do with my relationship with Brad Fallon or the direction StomperNet is going. This has to do with focusing on my core business and getting back to basics.

After tracking in my business journal the amount of time, effort and distraction StomperNet was causing me, I was shocked. I started tracking it because I had a few members of the SEO Revolution tell me that ever since I joined the StomperNet faculty, the quality of my SEO information fell and I was focused more on Affiliate Marketing. That made total sense as I was the Affiliate expert with StomperNet.

I want to stress that I have no ill will towards Brad, and I think their launch next month will be very successful. StomperNet will go on without me and they will continue to be successful. I greatly enjoyed helping their members reach a higher level of success while I was there.

Google Penalty?

During the “SEO Triple Threat” with Dan Thies and Leslie Rohde yesterday, I started going over the allinanchor check in Google … and “glazed” looks started coming from the audience, so I promised I’d do a video to show how to use “allinanchor” to see if you really have a penalty in Google or not.

The tool I show in this video is one I developed, but you can use NicheWatch for free. The video is less than four minutes long and should give you a clearer understanding how this process works.

Closed Door Event Recap

The night before StomperNetLive 8, I held a private event for guests and StomperNet members to give them three actionable items to improve their business. Here is a 15-minute segment of the one-hour presentation.

There are no secrets to effective internet marketing, it is all based on taking action on simple “Marketing 101″ principles. My testing proves that.

I had 127 people registered for the event and I’m laying out the name tags.

The room was packed as 122 people showed up.

Q & A

Even though the even ended at 8:30pm, I stayed until 11pm to make sure every person had their questions answered.
