Google has updated their Webmaster Guidelines and something is missing:
Google’s endorsement of submitting to directories … mostly DMOZ and the Yahoo! Directory.
A Google spokesperson, John Mu, stated:
I wouldn’t necessarily assume that we’re devaluing Yahoo’s links, I just think it’s not one of the things we really need to recommend. If people think that a directory is going to bring them lots of visitors (I had a visitor from the DMOZ once), then it’s obviously fine to get listed there. It’s not something that people have to do though
We know that Google’s own directory is nothing more than a scraped version of DMOZ and what is really interesting is that Google has dropped the link to that directory. Is Google distancing themselves from the ODP? From directories in general? We have seen the last three PageRank Toolbar updates directories just get completely hammered.

The main reason I started the SEO Revolution was out of frustration. Frustration at all of the lies and misconceptions that are posted in forums, given as advice in teleconferences, and even taught in live workshops. "So why didn't all of this work?" " Why wasn't my site successful?" " Why am I still stuck in a rut?"
