Notice of Intellectual Property Scam

I received quite a few of these, and, well, it’s basically a scam. There is no need to register these Chinese domains. Here is a copy of the email:

Hate Spam? How about a 2+MB Spam from Omniture?!?!

Omniture touts themselves as a global leader of web analytics. They should add “Vicious Spammers” to their list too. Check out the screen shot below:

Omniture Spam

Omniture Spam

It is one thing to send out a Spam email, it is quite another to send one with over 2MBs of attachments … and you can’t see two of the files that are attached – five in all.

It is no wonder smart Webmasters hate this company. Did you know they used to be called “MyComputer.com” and sold a $30 a month web tracker? The solutions they have now are just a souped up version of that tracker and the people I talk to state they love the information Omniture gives, they just don’t have anyone to implement the stuff.

Perfect.

Do yourself a favor, hire someone good who understands analytics and who can take data and do something with it and use Google Analytics or WebStat. You’ll be far better off. Invest in people who understand what you want to accomplish, not in technology produced by Spammers.

Link Spam Award Winner

I just got this link spam request a few hours ago. Usually I just delete these, but I have been checking out the techniques of link builders and I must say, this “three-way link” has got to be the award winning of link spam. Oh, and big surprise, the links page isn’t cached by Google.

The Spam Links page is located: http://computer-industrial.blogspot.com/ rel=”nofollow”

I just can’t believe other webmasters are falling for this technique.

Google Webmaster Tools Showing 404 Error Source

All I can say is it is about time Google included this information. I always thought it was such a pain for Google to report 404 or crawl errors and not tell you what the source was. I would often spent hours looking for references to clean my list.

My biggest shocker is the amount of links I have pointing to my pages with session IDs included. Are Webmasters really this stupid? I guess so.

Log into your account and check if you have any errors…and you’ll see a nice link with the pages linking to that dead page.

Competition for Google Analytics?

Recently Yahoo! acquired IndexTools, a web analytics company, and in the same spirit as when Google acquired Urchin, Yahoo! is launching their own brand of web analytics … for free.

The biggest benefit is Yahoo! will be offering real time tracking rather than Google’s 24-hour delay. Let’s see if Google is true to form and upgrades GA to include real-time tracking.

New AdWords Editor: Buggy

I am a big fan of the AdWords Editor … where you can control and edit your campaigns “off line” and make massive changes and even do imports of data quite easily. The new version? I’m not too happy with it. Not only is it slow on all of my machines, but it doesn’t bring in the new dynamic quality scores.

If you can’t have the current data, what’s the use of using the tool? For now, I have uninstalled it and will wait to hear of an update.

How Much Does Google Pay?!?!?

I love what I do, but when I read certain things, it makes me question my decisions sometimes …. like hearing that Google charges $56k, yeah, $56 grand a year for on-site child care. Okay, fine, you may have the best daycare on the planet, but I gotta wonder how much you are paying your employees to charge them $56k for childcare.

Wow.

Directories Targeted: Google Drops Recommendation

Google has updated their Webmaster Guidelines and something is missing:

Google’s endorsement of submitting to directories … mostly DMOZ and the Yahoo! Directory.

A Google spokesperson, John Mu, stated:

I wouldn’t necessarily assume that we’re devaluing Yahoo’s links, I just think it’s not one of the things we really need to recommend. If people think that a directory is going to bring them lots of visitors (I had a visitor from the DMOZ once), then it’s obviously fine to get listed there. It’s not something that people have to do though

We know that Google’s own directory is nothing more than a scraped version of DMOZ and what is really interesting is that Google has dropped the link to that directory. Is Google distancing themselves from the ODP? From directories in general? We have seen the last three PageRank Toolbar updates directories just get completely hammered.

Yahoo! Continues Poor Service

Not only does Yahoo! owe me close to $10k in unpaid affiliate commissions, but now they are raising their minimum credit card charge for Yahoo! Search Marketing (PPC) to $250.00. While Yahoo! claims this “in line with the industry’s competitive norm” I don’t see Google or Microsoft doing the same thing.

And then they issued this statement:

From November 3, 2008, until December 31, 2008, Yahoo! will be making a seasonal rate adjustment by increasing the cost per click (CPC) by 25% in all categories. This means that during this period your actual billed CPC will be 25% higher. This adjustment reflects the increased consumer buying activity during the holiday shopping season, which is typified by increased leads, better conversion to sale, and increased revenue for our merchant partners. The 25% adjustment to your billed CPC will be reflected on your Click Report and in your invoice.

I even received an email telling me my phone support has been discontinued. Someone please explain to me why we continue to advertise with Yahoo!? It is getting harder and harder for me to answer that question.

Google Webmaster Tools Limit Set at 500 Sites

Most Webmasters won’t have this issue because having 500+ sites is a little sick … yeah, I guess that makes me sick. If you have to monitor over 500 domains, you’ll need to become a Google partner and they will manually review your request and the limit can be lifted, but don’t count on it as my request went unanswered.
