Howie Schwartz Takes the Stage at StomperNet

Howie Schwartz, reformed Spammer, is on the stage right now at StomperNet. He’s discussing Web 2.0 and how you can use it to dominate the searches with Universal Search in Google.

Pretty awesome stuff. Even I’m impressed. Some takeaways:

- Use Google News to your advantage through Press Releases.
- Blog aggressively
- Target “Long Tail” phrases of those who are in the buying funnel. Ignore the others.
- Ignore the data from WordTracker.
- Get into video, and use it to promote your services and products
- If you have products, use Google Base (formerly Froogle)

So wish that I could be there. Have a great time :)

  2. “Even I’m impressed.”

It’s great to hear you say that Jerry… because it probably means we can expect to see you spending more time on generating test data for Web 2.0 specific tactics and strategies. Bring it on!

  3. What do you mean by, “ignore the data from Wordtracker”?

  4. Jerry West says:

    Doug,

Howie and I have already discussed doing some case studies regarding Web 2.0. He already knows he has a lot of convincing to do as I don’t care about traffic, just conversions.

    Matt,

WordTracker gets their info from DogPile. Who do you know that uses it? I don’t know anyone anymore. I know Mike and Andy from WordTracker well. The problem is the data has become so tainted that if you rely on it as your only source of keyword research, you will make poor decisions.

  5. Which keyword research source(’s) do you recommend?

  6. Jerry West says:

Google’s External Keyword Tool and I like Howie Schwartz’ Keyword Secret.

  7. Jon says:

How do you find those buying keyword phrases?

I bought into several hot Howie’s fee for service subscription programs; Bookmark Generation for example, and they were unadulterated crap. Totally unfinished and barely documented automation services that left me HUNDREDS of dollars poorer for next to nothing gained. His subscription fees are WAY over-priced for what they are worth. One tool was nothing more than a disguised Google External Keyword Tool, and I was paying for it. When I asked Howie’s sidekick Dom about it, there was no answer to my email. And in many cases, there is not refund, just cancellation of the subscription, so you’ve already been had for a least one months payment, which is also usually double or triple the remaining monthly payment. I think that is because Howie knows the suckers who buy into his no refund services, will cancel after the first month, but by then he’s collected a big fat upfront payment that is as good as if someone was subscribed for 3-4 months.

    Stay Away or Stay Broke!

So let me get this straight. You bought “several” of Howie’s programs and you found them to be “crap”. Hmmmm. After you figured out the first one was crap why did you keep buying them?!?! Sounds like a classic example of sour grapes.

Bitching will get you no where in life.
