March PageRank Update – Directory Affect?

After every TBPR Update (Toolbar PageRank) there seems to be a small army of SEOs and webmasters who want to know one thing, “How were the directories affected?”

As I always do, I hand check the directories to see how they fared. Here is a brief run down:

Aviva Directory – Lost off of their PageRank, this after dropping one point to a 4/10 during the last update in November.

WOW Directory – This is another that has dropped consistently. A drop to 4/10 in October, then a drop to 3/10 in January and now down to 0/10. Hate that.

Illumirate – This one has been down a lot over the last few months and has been built on Cold Fusion. Why would you ever do that. I made that mistake once. You tend to learn rather quickly.

There were 70 changes in all.

21 went up and 49 went down. Here is a complete list in alphabetical order. To get my complete update, you’ll need to subscribe to the SEO Revolution.

My personal favorite has to be the Search Engine Friendly directory which lost ALL of its PageRank. Gotta hate that. Name change coming?!?!

Nice stats. I’ll definitely be checking back.

Overall effect in March was a net decline in PR. In fact, the deep pages have even less PR.

As of Sept 2008, continued random dropping of PageRank on various directories continues to fall.

Even some formally decent DMOZ pages, with good quality inbound links have randomly dropped PR to 0, while nearly identical categories maintain PR just fine.

Ultimately, broad directories will continue to suffer, while niche directories are currently faring much better at the moment.

P.s. Can you do a recap on these directories? I can see that they have moved around. E.g. Add Your Site Free has returned to a PR3.
