Security Checklist for Webmasters

Just saw this over on Google’s Webmasters Blog and it is worth reviewing. The timing of this post is interesting as it is right on the heels of when my server was compromised just a couple of weeks ago. I have added some commentary to it, but basically, this is what you need to look out for:

  1. Check Your Server Configuration. Apache Server Tips. Windows Server Tips. Areas that you really can’t ignore are directory permissions, server side includes (SSI), authentication, encryption and cross-site scripting.

Importing Data into YSM

There’s talk over in WMW regarding YSM failing over and over again with importing data, especially from AdWords. I’ve been using YSM back when it was GoTo and the process of importing data has NEVER been easy. Why do you expect any different? It’s difficult in AdWords too. Just my opinion, but I think they do this on purpose. If it is harder to go from service to service, you may not bail. Lame I know, but it is 2007 and if you can’t create a seamless way to import data, I don’t think you’re ever going to offer it.

And that’s a shame.
